Are You Afraid?

So, I was browsing articles on togetherlive.com, and I came across this. I just had to share! Don't let fear rule you, stop you, or slow you down!

You are greater than your fear!

We now return to our regularly scheduled...

My apologies, I am having keyboard issues ;-) I believe I have fixed the problem, but don't quote me on that, lol.

In the meantime, back at the hacienda life continues with its own pattern of interruptions. Hence as usual, I'm disorganized :-D
So back to why we are here. Living with invisible illness and the backlash that comes with it. In past posts we covered the alphabet soup of DX I have, but today I want to talk about mental illness.
I grew up in an era of secrecy where mental illness was concerned. It just wasn't talked about, or if it was, you whispered. Thankfully, we have come a long way since then. It still is a difficult subject, but things are changing. Here is my small  contribution to those changes.

I am Autistic, Savant, to be more precise. What they now call Autism Spectrum Disorder, or ASD. I also have Multiple Personality Disorder. This brings on a whole herd of "symptoms" that are disorders within themselves. I have been told all my life that I was NOT normal because of these things.

As I've stated before, there are a whole host of other things wrong with my physical body, but for now I am going to focus on living with Autism, and some of the issues that come with it. After all, that's where the name for this blog originally came from!

Since it's been such a long time, I'm stopping here today with this thought...
Just because you watch a show on tv, does not mean you know all about me and what I live with. I know I'm not the only one tired of hearing
"But you don't act like Rainman!"
Right?

INTRO TO ME

I have put this off for a while because the thought off actually listing my dx in black and white is a bit daunting. I have decided the best thing to do is list the major issues, and the minor ones will come in to play eventually. So here goes...

I was diagnosed in July 1999, by an independent panel of Dr's to have Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy. It is like a distant cousin to Fibromyalgia. The main difference being that Fibro only affects the nerve endings, RSD affects bone, tissue (muscle), and my entire nervous system. RSD normally only affects one limb. If it spreads, it does so bilaterally (leg to leg, or right arm to right leg etc). Over the years my RSD has become systemic (affecting entire body), the odds of this happening were supposed to be something like 1/1,000,000. So I guess you can honestly call me the odd ball of the bunch. Until just prior to my dx, I had been relatively healthy. I injured my left shoulder in 3 separate incidents over a period of 18 months. The result was RSD.
RSD is an autoimmune disease so things started going downhill from there. It spread slowly from arm to arm then to my lower extremities, however after that it spread like wildfire inside my abdomen. I now have an umbrella in the atrial chambers of my heart where the wall began to shrink and tore a hole between the two atrial chambers. I have a pacemaker (the newest addition), because the sympathetic nervous system is the part that controls your hearts rhythm. Mine was in A-fyb more than I was in a normal rhythm. I have had a plastic sleeve placed in my esophagus because the tissues there shrunk causing a huge hole; added to GERD, I had more food going into my lungs than in my stomach, causing constant pneumonia. I have developed IBS, which I understand is common with fibro.
There a lot of other annoying little things that have resulted from my RSD, but I think you get the picture when I say I understand your pain. My hope is that by blogging about life with chronic illness, I can help others know they are not alone in their painful journey.
So there you have it, me in a nutshell! I can't promise how often I will be able to post right now, I am going through a really tough time, but I promise to be as steady and frequent as my body will allow. Butterfly hugs to you all, until next time be blessed!

Same Name, New Feel

So I originally started this blog when I was very angry. I've gone through many life changes since then :-) I like the name, it is still very appropriate, so I didn't want to change it, but I want to blog again, so I am picking up here and we aren't looking back.
Initially I was going to delete previous posts, but that implies I'm ashamed of them. I'm not. It was how I felt at the time and I won't be ashamed of who I've been....all part the journey to who I am now.
Going forward from here I can promise that the feel and content will much more interesting and easy to follow. That being said...let's get started!
I want to share with the world what living with chronic illness is really like, the ups, the downs and in between. I hope to inspire those who have to live this way as well as those who live with and care for someone with chronic illness. While the road is not easy, it doesn't all have to be up hill. I have been contemplating this change for a while now, but kept excusing my delay with...well...excuses. "It's too hard from my phone", "I'm too tired most the time", "Who wants to read about my boring life?", and so on. Then I suddenly had a large number of followers on Google+, people I had never met, yet they were suddenly interested in me....hmm. okay, as an ordained minister, I'm going to take that as a sign to get off my butt and quit making excuses. As I began to explore these new followers, I found myself more and more inspired to make a difference in this world. I knew what I needed to address, so I just needed to get busy right?
So here I am, trying to do what I know I need to do and what happens? Writers block, lol, typical of me. So I will end tonight with something that inspired me to get off my rump and get started. I hope it inspires someone to go forward like it did me.

When you are thinking about quitting, look ahead not behind. Keep your goals in front of you so you can see where you are going....You already know where you've been. Some say to be happy you have to set the bar high, I say it's a personal choice how high you set the bar. You choose what makes you happy, (we'll get more into those choices soon, I promise). My bar must be set pretty low, for I am a mere seed, that will grow into a tree that will produce fruit, which will produce another seed.
How about you?? Where is your happiness bar set and why?, is it your choice? Look deep within, and we will talk again soon...
Until then, be well and be safe!

Changing my tune........

So I have been reminded in several ways over the last couple of days to take the family god has given me, and make something good come out of the situations we are in.  I believe by changing my attitude about the things going on that God will change the things in our life.

The best reminder I had was from Nike at Choose to Thrive Blogspot.com.
Thrive: My Son’s Wearing A Skirt At Walmart ….: You have to read down a bit to get to the best part, but trust me it is worth Miles of Smiles.

So that being said I need to find a way to turn all my whining into something positive.......still brainstorming that one.

Remodelling going on.....

Please pardon my mess while I remodel a bit.  This was originally my place to vent, but has gotten mixed into an all in one.  I have been bitten by the blogger bug, so I am remodeling....This will once again be my place to vent, and I and opening a craft project blog, and maybe even an everyday whatever blog.... In the meantime things are going to be a mess!!!!!!!
Ya gotta love me....

Okay so I have been able to move some post to my other blog, add labels to all my posts and change the format to fit the holiday theme.  I'm also learning to add some things to the format.  I guess you could say the remodel of this blog is basically done.  I still need to remodel the challenges page, but that is easy.
